We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Clinician to join our team, providing critical individual and group counseling services to unaccompanied children and youth residing in a 24-hour shelter funded by the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR). The Clinician will work with children and youth, using evidence-based therapeutic techniques to address mental health and behavioral needs, including Solution Focused Brief Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. This role will also involve crisis intervention, mental health assessments, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the well-being of the children in our care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct individual and group counseling sessions, using Evidence-Based Practices (EBPs) to address the needs of youth.
- Perform intake assessments and create individual service plans (ISPs) to ensure that each child’s needs are met in compliance with ORR and MDHHS requirements.
- Document assessments, including Risk Assessments, Mental Health Evaluations, Human Trafficking assessments, and Case Summary updates in the UC Portal and internal software systems within required timelines.
- Provide crisis intervention, de-escalation, and support to help children and youth regulate emotions during times of distress.
- Develop, implement, and update individualized treatment plans and service plans for children and youth in care.
- Conduct psycho-educational group sessions on a variety of topics, fostering emotional and behavioral growth.
- Participate in multidisciplinary Treatment Team meetings, providing input on youth's emotional and behavioral progress.
- Write Significant Incident Reports (SIRs) promptly, documenting and reporting all significant incidents related to the youth in care.
- Assist in the intake process to identify potential signs of trafficking or other concerns, ensuring appropriate intervention and support.
- Collaborate with Case Management, Youth Care Professionals (YCPs), and other departments to provide coordinated care for youth.
- Complete referrals for psychological and psychiatric services as needed and follow up to ensure timely delivery of care.
- Maintain confidentiality of all personal and sensitive information per HIPAA and organizational policies.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related field required.
- Minimum 2 years of clinical experience working with children and youth, with at least 1 year in a residential setting preferred.
- Licensed or license-eligible in the state of Michigan (must be actively working toward licensure if not yet licensed).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to use tablets, laptops, or desktops for documentation and communication.
- Fluency in English and Spanish is required; additional language skills may be considered based on program needs.
- Experience with crisis management, de-escalation techniques, and trauma-informed care.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple cases and responsibilities simultaneously.
- Ability to interact with youth in a culturally responsive manner and maintain professional conduct.
