Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of children and youth? Join our team as a Youth Care Professional (YCP) and help provide vital support and care to unaccompanied minors residing in a 24-hour shelter setting. As a YCP, you will play a key role in ensuring the safety, well-being, and development of children between the ages of 10-17, while adhering to federal and state regulations.
What You'll Do:
- Provide Direct Care and Supervision: Ensure the safety and well-being of youth through daily care, supervision, and crisis response. You'll be a role model, providing guidance and maintaining a safe environment for each child.
- Facilitate Youth Programs: Engage children in age-appropriate activities, including educational tutoring, recreational activities (soccer, arts, and crafts), vocational training (life skills, first aid, etc.), and structured leisure (movie nights, birthdays, and special celebrations).
- Ensure Youth Health and Safety: Help with the intake process and assist in assessing and addressing each child's physical, medical, and emotional health needs. Ensure compliance with safety standards, including conducting room checks and supervising youth in various settings.
- Support Youth Empowerment: Participate in leadership programs like student councils and youth-led initiatives that encourage self-expression and personal growth.
- Document and Report: Complete detailed reports, including progress notes, incident reports, and headcounts, to ensure transparency and compliance with all regulations.
- Cultural Sensitivity: Provide orientation and support that is culturally appropriate and tailored to each child’s needs, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all.
What We’re Looking For:
- Passion for Youth Care: A genuine desire to make a positive impact in the lives of children and adolescents.
- Experience: At least 1 year of experience working with children or adolescents in a social service or child welfare setting. Prior experience in a shelter environment is a plus!
- Skills: Strong organizational and communication skills. Ability to handle sensitive information confidentially, while working collaboratively with a team.
- Education: A high school diploma or GED is required. Two years of experience working with youth preferred.
- Certifications: Must be CPR/First Aid certified or willing to obtain certification within the first 30 days of employment.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to work with children in various physical settings and respond to emergency situations as needed.
- Language: Proficiency in English is required. Spanish-speaking skills are a plus.
