We are looking for a dedicated and dynamic Lead Educational / Activities Manager to join our team. This role involves leading the development and coordination of after-school activities, weekend programs, and special events for unaccompanied children and youth residing in a shelter funded by the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR). The Lead Manager will work closely with the Youth Care Professional (YCP) department and other staff to create engaging, culturally responsive, and enriching experiences that promote positive youth development.
As the Lead Educational / Activities Manager, you will ensure that all activities meet ORR requirements, adhere to state and federal regulations, and foster a safe, supportive, and fun environment for the children and youth in our care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee educational instructors and vocational teacher assistants to ensure the minimum 6-hour educational services required by ORR are provided.
- Plan and coordinate engaging after-school activities, such as sports, games, book clubs, and other educational or recreational activities.
- Organize outings and field trips to local museums, parks, and other community-friendly destinations.
- Coordinate guest speakers and presentations that offer youth exposure to new experiences and community resources.
- Plan and facilitate program-wide events, such as holiday celebrations and academic recognition ceremonies.
- Lead and direct staff, ensuring the activities are executed smoothly and align with program goals.
- Ensure that all volunteers and community members entering the facility undergo required background checks and follow safety protocols.
- Supervise and assist with transportation and safety during outings and activities.
- Maintain positive relationships with students, staff, and community partners to foster a nurturing and safe environment.
- Complete and submit daily progress reports, incident reports, and performance evaluations as required.
- Work closely with other departments to ensure youth have access to critical services like case management, legal support, and medical care.
- Actively participate in training, workshops, and team meetings to continuously improve the quality of services provided.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required; experience in after-school or summer camp programs preferred.
- Up to 2 years of experience working with children and youth, with at least 1 year in a shelter or residential setting.
- Certification in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL/TEFL) is a plus.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and comfortable using a variety of software and electronic devices for reporting and communication.
- Strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate, guide, and manage staff and activities.
- Experience in planning and facilitating group activities for children and youth.
- Ability to communicate effectively with staff, youth, families, and external stakeholders.
- Fluency in English required; Spanish fluency preferred.
- Ability to interact with youth in a culturally sensitive and trauma-informed manner.
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Must pass background checks, drug tests, and maintain confidentiality in all program areas.
