We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Educational Instructor to join our team and make a meaningful impact on the lives of unaccompanied youth ages 10-17. The instructor will design and implement age-appropriate curriculum in academic, technical, or vocational subjects such as ESL, science, math, language arts, social studies, and physical education at a 24-hour shelter funded by the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR).
As an Educational Instructor, you will create a nurturing and productive learning environment for youth, support their academic progress, and ensure compliance with ORR, MDHHS, and national educational standards. This is an exciting opportunity to help children and youth grow academically, emotionally, and socially, while working in a dynamic and rewarding setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver engaging lessons in subjects such as ESL, science, social studies, math, language arts, and physical education.
- Monitor and assess student progress, provide feedback, and adjust lesson plans as needed.
- Create individualized academic plans for each student and ensure the safety and well-being of all youth.
- Complete required documentation including student records, incident reports, and attendance.
- Build positive relationships with students and collaborate with case managers, clinicians, and other staff.
- Participate in team meetings and staff development opportunities.
- Follow all safety, security, and program policies to ensure a safe learning environment.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in education or related field (Teaching Certification preferred).
- At least 2 years of experience working with children or youth in an educational setting.
- Experience teaching ESL or in a multi-cultural classroom setting is a plus.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to use various educational tools.
- Ability to work well in a team environment and communicate effectively with youth and staff.
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Must pass background checks, drug tests, and maintain confidentiality in all program areas.
- Spanish fluency is preferred but not required.
