The Albion Historical Society is inviting the public to make reservations to its annual Mothers' Day Tea at the Gardner House Museum on Saturday, May 11. Two seatings -- 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. -- are being offered. Reservations are required to participate in the Tea and must be made by May 8. While the event is free, donations are gratefully accepted.
Strong evidence exists to support the notion that Mother's Day has its roots in Albion thanks to the sons of Juliet Calhoun Blakely, a local woman of strong character and grit. Juliet's sons, who were travelling salesmen, made a promise to their mother that they would return to Albion each year to honor her on her birthday, May 13, or the second Sunday in May. As the sons travelled about the country, they often shared stories of their mother with business contacts, making suggestions that they, too, should honor their mothers.
Since nobody is more "true blue" than dear mother, the menu will be accented by surprising and delicious blue items. Expect hot tea, delectable sweets, and a nutritious entree.
